WANDA BARKER/LITTLE HILL STUDIOS

I am an expressive abstractionist, who collages and utilizes text and poetry in my work. I paint large and smaller, often challenging works with acrylics, oil, Indian ink, domestic fabrics and text. Parts are then embellished with glitter, gold or silver leaf, beads, lace, buttons and resin.

I paint my feelings, as shadow, as social commentary, reflecting domestic life and women’s humour and rage. I also paint layered text from my favourite stories, like Alice in Wonderland.

I am also a writer, of poetry, novels and I make cards from my smaller works.

After many years of painting/writing being quite separate preoccupations, at least in my mind, these two modalities are coming together in my work in a new kind of layered abstraction.
