Dominique Marriott merges her love of Japanese aesthetics and ideology with Western life drawing traditions. The artist practices shodō—Japanese brush calligraphy employed as a Zen meditative ritual. She brings this into her practice when painting the figure, seeking to express the dynamic energy of brush calligraphy in her linework.
Dominique is a figurative artist working from her home studio in Waingaro. Dominique received her visual arts degree from Unitec in 2015, where she developed her interest in studying the figure. Since then, she has become proficient in reducing the form, achieving a linear clarity that displays control and efficiency. Her style is minimal, with a clean aesthetic that is both classic and modern.
