MARY SPACAPAN
Mary Spacapan, an artist deeply connected to the land and unearthing her indigenous North American [Mohawk] heritage, brings a unique perspective to the canvas.
Born to US-Canadian parents, Mary’s journey has taken her from the United States to Aotearoa New Zealand, where she now calls home. She believes it right to acknowledge her place in Aotearoa is upheld by her commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and sustained through the friendship of many.
Her art is an exploration of the dynamic nature of the whenua, or land, and the role of memory, sound, and connection in shaping our understanding of the world around us.
