Jo Gallagher
Jo is an established New Zealand artist who has dedicated over 20 years to her art practice, opening her studio for the 1st time during the Raglan Arts Weekend.
Her work explores a diverse range of subject matter, from contemporary florals to themes of national identity and 1970s-inspired fashion. Native birds often feature within her paintings, adding layers of storytelling and symbolism.
Jo draws inspiration from words and phrases in the English language, allowing the concept for the painting to develop from here. Working in acrylics, she builds her surfaces through multiple layers creating depth, pattern and visual intrigue.
Her work is exhibited in galleries throughout New Zealand and held in private collections both nationally and internationally.
