HAYLEY HAMILTON

I attended Central St Martins School Of Art in London, England. I emigrated to NZ in 1997. I work from an open studio workshop in Raglan. I mostly paint and make ceramic
sculptures. I have dabbled in commercial illustration and my latest endeavor is a combination of drawing, painting, collage and digital art.

I never really know what to label myself as I consider myself to be an illustrator, a visual storyteller, maybe a painter or a sculptor. After the practical restraints of using clay artistically, I love the freedom of painting and alternatively illustrating brings me just as much joy. I am currently learning how to create digital art , which I absolutely love. Curiosity and variation have always been an essential part of my creativity.

I am striving for a connection with the viewer of my work. To tell a relatable story is my intrinsic goal. The ideas are constant, like a chatter in my head that I need to pare back. I am inspired by everything and anything from Renaissance embroidery, the family dog asleep on his bed or the expression of a stranger. Through the chaos that this brings emerges the seed of an image that I then work on until i am satisfied.
