DYANA WELLS

I am a Raglan artist and have been painting now for over six years. While I enjoy many modalities, my current focus has been printmaking using gelliprints, woodcuts, linocuts, and screenprints. I collage torn and cut pieces to construct wall hangings and paintings. I have started teaching workshops to share these rather messy but highly creative processes.

I enjoy moving between painting, printmaking and other modalities to keep my process fresh and explorative. The unsatisfactory pieces are wonderful stepping off points for something else, often incorporating another modality or idea.

My process is abstract, even when some of my stencils are figurative. Generally I am inspired by the process rather than a preconceived idea of an outcome. I experiment, trust myself and allow the unfinished work to tell me where to go next.
