HELEN PARSONS

Everything about painting fascinates me. I love it that painting is a way to connect with places and with people. I’ve been painting since graduating from Elam Art School many years ago and have been an artist ever since, as well teaching now and then, writing and editing for an art journal, and researching with others.

I like to work on a large scale to mimic the way that I wrap surfaces of the land when painting – textures of organic matter, trees, rock, even architectural flintstone and brick emerge in the inky canvas marks that sprawl out and gather together. I work mostly with water-soluble pigments, inks, graphite, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal and anything that can be mixed into paint, and canvas, linen, paper and card. Most of the time I paint outside in forests, on beaches, or with built architecture.

Also, I offer Drawing Retreats in my studio through workshop experiences with small groups of people where I facilitate meaningful drawing encounters and share my love of making.  Visit my website for details about these, and I look forward to welcoming you into my studio!
